IN MY OPINION
Everything that I have ever accomplished toward forward movement began as an experiment. Even if the action has been researched and data published, I must conduct a personal experiment, collect the data, analyze the results, and reach an opinion. A conclusion is supported by multiple sources and carries more weight than my opinion.
Much of what I write is my opinion.
My urging you to start your day with a meditation practice of your choice and the positive benefits of doing so, is supported by a plethora of data. I experimented, collected data, analyzed the data, and developed my opinion on the positive benefits of meditation. My opinion aligns with the conclusion of formal research. In my opinion, morning meditation helps me “happen to my day versus the day happening to me.”
Sitting quietly first every morning has become my trusted companion. I am married to the perfect man – perfect for me, but I meditate before I interact with him… he does likewise… we are a better couple because of this practice. Connecting with myself allows me to see myself before anyone else does (hopes, fears, flash points etc.) I am free, as comfortable as my spirit will allow me to be, to interact with my good, bad, and ugly self. It is the ultimate no judgement zone. One day I might be whining and grumpy, the next courage filled, brave and upbeat. In either case, the thoughts and feelings can be explored under an imaginary microscope. A way forward may or may not be revealed but I always leave with a clearer understanding of me and a thought that I have never had. Clarity is one of the keys that helps me happen to my day.
Meditation has the potential to transform a tourist of the mind into an explorer. Tourists look for what they have come to see. Explorers look with expectation for an unknown trail perhaps leading to a wonderful moment of self-discovery…the kind that informs one’s self-expression to the world. In an unexplainable way, the priorities of the day take shape, allowing me to happen to my day. Knowing my priorities adds ease and order to the day.
Of course, life-ing is far more than meditation. I have experimented with other practices that also helps me to happen to my day. It goes hand in hand with adequate sleep, a proper diet and exercise…in other words self-care. Meditation is one building block of living a life made more palatable when aware of behaviors, by clarity of thought, and by being in daily dialogue with your inner person.
You may already practice meditation, congratulations. Encourage someone who doesn’t, to start. Personal experience shared with another person is the best motivator.
