EGGS

In a post a year ago, I mentioned eggs and promised to share more of my observations about them in another post. I try to keep my promise!!!

Did you know? 1)Commercially produced eggs in the US are always refrigerated but not in most other countries (Why? Other countries don’t wash eggs) 2) The eggshell’s color does not affect the inside of the egg whatsoever. 3) The grade of the egg, AA, A, B is determined by the lack of blemishes on shell and the size, XL, L, M, and S is determined by weight and shape of the yolk. 5) Grade B is almost never sold to the public. 6) Living conditions for chicks are not good - most are cramped in a very small cage, 7) Most chicks are fed corn or soy, 8) Cage-free means a tiny bit more space but the chicken will never see sunlight 9) Free-range chicks get a little bit more space with limited access to the outdoors 10) Pastured-raised are almost always outside and have a varied diet because they can peck and scratch at the dirt. The yearly consumption of eggs per person in the USA tops 275. This number includes eggs that are an ingredient in other products.

There is a correlation between humans and eggs that bears highlighting if you haven’t grasped it from that brief overview of eggs. Humans that populate the earth come in a variety of colors. Humans are raised in different environments. However, when slammed on the side of the bowl of life, what spills forth is universal. If humans have the slightest crack caused by pain, or hurt or disappointment, it all oozes out our shells just like the egg white of a boiled egg when times get tough. When life whisks us around like an egg being beaten for scrambling, we look/react the same regardless of our outer shell’s color or blemishes.

An egg is of little use until it is broken. The nutrients of the egg are primarily located in the yolk. An uncracked egg will eventually spoil. Humans are no different. To fully occupy our small piece of the universe requires a willingness to be cracked and used. What use is your talent or your love if it stays locked behind your shell?

A chicken can lay anywhere between a few hundred to over a thousand eggs in its lifetime. Humans are resilient! We are cracked, broken, scrambled, boiled, and poached repeatedly. But just as a chicken keeps laying eggs day after day, humans are supplied with opportunity after opportunity to live into the full purpose for which we were created.

This is what I learned from the mighty egg. AND

I have purchased my last carton of cage-free eggs, nor will I be concerned about the grade. The price is not justified. After all, knowledge without action is just knowledge.

PONDER THIS THOUGHT ---Until the shell is broken, nothing happens.
