PRACTICE: Name one dream you have for your future.

“Dark Shadows” is a gothic horror soap tv opera that originally aired in the late sixties and early seventies but has withstood the test of time and is still shown. It featured many of the darker things of life like vampires, ghost, zombies etc., things that appear in dark shadows. I never really watched the show but remembered it as I laid in bed one morning waiting for the alarm . I was mesmerized by the shadows being created in the darkened room by the lights and lightening of an early morning thunderstorm. The light fluttered here and there, and the thunder’s roar created an eerie moment. I was in a safe space, my bedroom, but dark shadows still appeared.

Oops – learning alert! Safe space is not an impermeable shield from dark shadows. The dark shadows I (we) wrestle with are not vampires, witches and warlocks. Or maybe they are.

The folklore of a vampire is that they survive by feeding on the vital essence of the living. Vampires typically wreck-havoc in the lives of their loved ones and neighborhoods. They live by preying on others. They appear in the darkness.

Simple question: Who or what is sucking the essence of life out of you? When you answer the question, you have found one of your vampires. Witches (female) and warlocks (male) are supposedly capable of casting a spell over another person. Simple question: What habit/practice/person are you so entrenched or enchanted with that it controls you rather than you controlling it? The answer is your witch or warlock.

I wouldn’t ask you to try something that I am not willing to do. My vampires are many but the one is being worked on currently is “drivenness.” Instant gratification is the witch that constantly seeks to wrap me in her spell. Your vampire or witch might be – chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or seeking the fountain of youth or haughtiness, arrogance, alcohol, lack of motivation. To know what lurks in your dark shadows gives you and me the opportunity to expose them to light. Vampires (according to folklore) die in sunlight.

Acts 13:10

PONDER THIS THOUGHT---Dark shadows can potentially kill dreams.
