Over the holidays, unexpected travel, stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition and limited exercise joined forces and wrestled me to the mat…my bed and couch. I caught a case of a stomach bug and a cold all at the same time.I knew I was down for the count when I didn’t want my morning coffee and neither did my hubby who joined me as act of solidarity. For nearly 18 hours, he laid on one end of the couch and I on the other.

Where was the delight in this bout of illness you might be asking? We were in it together and bonded over each trying to care for the other. I was delighted when he finally asked for a cup of hot ginger tea. He was delighted when I ate some crackers. We both took delight in knowing that no one was expecting us to be anywhere or do anything. We took delight in being able to just be sick.

I want the spirit of delight to be a constant companion this year…a delight not dependent upon circumstances but based upon a lifestyle.
